Additivity between Key Odorants in Pig House Air

The verification of odor abatement technologies for livestock production based on chemical odorants requires a method conversion into an value that reflects the significance individual odorants. aim present study was to compare SOAV (Sum Odor Activity Values) with detection threshold measured by olfactometry and investigate assumption additivity. Synthetic pig house air at realistic concentration levels used in (hydrogen sulfide, methanethiol, trimethylamine, butanoic acid, 4-methylphenol). An olfactometer only PTFE contact sample estimate values (OTVs) samples two five results show good correlation (R2 = 0.88) between estimated OTVs panelists found literature. For majority samples, ratio not significantly different from one, which indicates OAV mixture can be considered additive. In conclusion, additivity seems reasonable, but strength is determined OTV data used.
